Gender Dilemma

The other night at the Seare Family Christmas Party at Grandma Bev's club house, James let me know that he had to go potty. I quickly ran him to the restroom and he took care of business without any problem. Later in the evening, however, we heard James wailing in distress. The sound was coming from over by the bathrooms. I found him by some of the older kids, crying his eyes out. "Mom," he said, pointing to the women's restroom, (where I, of course, had taken him earlier) "They won't let me in there. They said it's just for girls! But that's the one YOU took Me in!"

He was quite distraught over the whole incident, even after I explained that little boys can go in either one, depending on whether Mommy or Daddy takes them. That seemed to appease him for now, but I am just waiting for the real confusion to settle in when he starts to pick up on gender difference in greater detail. (That has already started to some degree...Just ask Grandma Seal about James' observation about certain features she has that are "just like Mommy's!"
